Draft, final text to come.
Privacy
This page explains, in plain words, what Stories We Tell collects when you make a film with us, where it is kept, who can see it, and how to have it removed.
What we collect
- Your email address and the name you give us.
- Your story: the answers you give in your story page and the conversation that shapes them.
- Details about the people in your story, such as their names, dates and their place in the story.
- The files you upload, such as photos, letters, videos and documents, up to 25 MB each.
- If you use dictation, your browser's speech service transcribes your voice. Stories We Tell receives only the text.
How we confirm your email
We send a 6-digit code to your email address. Entering it in your story page confirms that the address is yours.
Where it is kept
Your account details and your story are stored in a MongoDB Atlas database. Your files are stored in Amazon S3.
How your film is made, and who helps
Your film is made by our team with our own proprietary layer on top of the models we use, set up for each stage of the work: the conversation, the script, the images and the video.
We are moving this work to open-source models hosted on private servers we control, before our public launch. During the beta, the models are still run for us by the companies below, together with the services that host our tools. Your material is sent to them only to make your film:
- Anthropic, to write each reply in the conversation in your story page. Your messages are sent to Anthropic for this.
- OpenRouter, to create the images and video clips of your film from your story and your photos.
- OpenAI, only if draft narration is switched on for your film, to turn the script into a draft voice track.
- An n8n workflow server, which passes your files and story between these services while your film is made.
- Resend, to send you our emails, such as your confirmation code.
- Vercel, which hosts this website.
Who reads it
The Stories We Tell team reads your story and your files to make your film. They do this from an admin space that only the team can sign in to.
When the team sends you a link to a scene, anyone who has that link can view that scene.
How long we keep it
Our rule is to keep your files until 90 days after your film is delivered. Removal after that date is not automatic yet, so if you want your files gone, ask us and we will erase them.
Erasing your data
To have your story and files erased, write to us through Need help? in your story page. The team can erase a story, its records and its files.
Questions
Use Need help? inside your story page. The Stories We Tell team reads every request.
